Oral health is critical to your pet's well-being and longevity. Pets need regular dental cleanings, but many owners are reluctant to risk the potential complications of anesthesia for a condition that is not immediately life-threatening. That is why this service exists: To provide an alternative to anesthesia-based dental cleanings. It's not for all pets, but it does fill a need.
We use specialized animal handling techniques to hold and reassure your pet, letting them smell all the instruments and get used to the sensations first. We then remove the accumulated calculus ("tartar") from exposed tooth surfaces using standard dental hand tools, and polish the tooth surfaces with dental pumice. An antibacterial oral rinse is used in the process to manage the bacteria released during the cleaning.
The techniques used are most appropriate for healthy pets with mild to moderate calculus buildup. Pets with more extreme cases will be refered back to your veterinarian.
